The Power of a Moment
"But I don't have any
stories." Yes, I actually have heard this many times
from people who are looking at my books. It is very hard not
to look completely shocked. We all have stories. We have
stories about special
occasions and milestones in our life. But we also have those
little gems, those
stories that happen in a split second - in a "moment". My
friend Patty Glass decided to make her
next book a 12x12 book filled with those little moments.
Those pictures she has captured an instant in time when she found some
joy in a smile, an object, a
simple random act. She has many pictures that didn't make it into other
books -
but they trigger some little memory for her. Those are the
stories she's going to
capture. The stories of life's little moments.
Nothing detailed, nothing
complex - each moment with it's own identity. One of her favorite songs
is "The
Power of a Moment" by Chris Rice. He sings
"I get so distracted
by my bigger
schemes

 To move pages within your project, use the page
management window. To open this window, click "manage pages"
at the top of the page navigation bar at the right.
The
covers (FC and BC), the blank first page and copyright (C) page cannot
be moved, but any numbered page can be moved anywhere in the project.

of celebrations at my home. My husband Jacques and I will be
celebrating our 10th wedding anniversary on Friday. I made a

you don't want to start from scratch. One template can have
completely
different looks for different projects! It's one of the things that
makes our
Heritage Studio Publisher and Template Gallery so unique! Take a look
at these
two examples - both are pages from the 11.5x8.5 book (our Pick
of the Month!) created with the Simple Simon Template from our
Template Gallery. For this page, my friend Patty used the template
as-is -
she swapped in her photos and added text.
For this next spread, Patty stepped it up a notch!
She used some of the NEW Basic artwork (Tyler Collection) and
dragged up backgrounds and
a frame. She also deleted the
text box and used the alphabet embellishments found in the
collection. Exactly

I
also wanted to share an excerpt from another newsletter I receive that
inspired me to get organized for some more storybooking fun ...
"Have
you ever considered why we enjoy digital scrapbooking so much? Is
there value in creating digital scrapbook layouts? Here are some of my
thoughts:
* We create digital scrapbook layouts to keep records of our families.
* We create digital scrapbook layouts to communicate our values.
* We create digital scrapbook layouts to share hope and faith.
* We create digital scrapbook layouts to tie generations together.
* We create digital scrapbook layouts to express things in ourselves in
ways that words alone can't express.
* I believe that digital scrapbooking is a noble, worthwhile and
valuable
activity. This is the main reason I am so enthusiastic about it. The
benefits of digital scrapbooking won't diminish with the unsteady winds
of society, finances, health issues or political decisions.
Keeping family records is one of the few things we can leave behind us
that will last. Candy lasts until we swallow it. Movies last until they
are over. New couches last until they are worn out. Clothing lasts
until it is worn out or discarded. Vacations last until we come home
from them. But digital scrapbooks, if carefully preserved, can be
passed down, inherited and enjoyed for generations - and they can tell
about our favorite candy, movies we enjoyed, the furniture we owned. As
a matter of fact, when we create layouts, the historical records show
the clothing we wore and we tell the stories of favorite vacations. We
can't keep those things, but we can keep the memories of them alive.
When we create digital scrapbooking layouts, we identify people,
describe them and express our feelings about them. Photographs are
often stuck into books and the memories associated with them are lost
when the memory of the photographer or subjects is lost. For example, I
have a beautiful book of my grandparent's
photos. I have no idea who many of the people are in those photos and
certainly have no idea why they were important to my grandparents.
Family stories shared around the dinner table last until we forget they
happened. People's names are forgotten. Details are changed with
dimming minds."
I'm
suddenly in the mood to start a new project, how about you? :)

7 Reasons to be a Storybooker
|
|
I
met a wonderful new friend at a Regionals training in Calgary,
Alberta. Her name is Linda Kutchall and she lives in a small town in
Saskatchewan. She is also an owner of a scrapbook store and a mother of
three daughters. She admits to being a scrapbook addict from the time
her first child was born some 10 years ago. But I soon learned that as
much as Linda loves scrapbooking, she calls
“storybooking” the next
generation of scrapbooking, with the onslaught of digital cameras,
photo enhancements and a generation that is more likely to preserve
history like never before!
Linda
chose Heritage Makers because the unbelievable creative
component we offer is what she was seeking. Linda got busy creating her
own family storybooks, and the more she used the system the more she
loved it.
Here
are some reasons why Linda is now a storybooking addict (in her own
